In cooperation with the long-established Michigan Society of Fellows at the University of Michigan, the IWLC founded the Tsinghua-Michigan Society of Fellows in April 2016, creating the institutional mechanism for introducing first-rank young scholars from Europe and America to China.
The purpose of the Tsinghua-Michigan Society of Fellows (TMSF) is to promote advanced scholarly inquiry in the humanities and humanistic social sciences in a collaborative intercultural setting. Additionally, the TMSF fosters academic exchange between the Tsinghua Institute for World Literatures and Cultures and the Michigan Society of Fellows, which in turn encourages similar academic exchange at every level between Tsinghua University and the University of Michigan. The primary function of the Society is to select and mentor a group of Fellows, recent outstanding PhD recipients, and provide them with teaching experiences and research opportunities. The first three TMSF fellows, Dr. Neal Alfred Allar from Cornell University, Dr. Stephanie Anderson from the University of Chicago, and Dr. Megan Steffen from Princeton University, joined the Institute for World Literatures and Cultures of Tsinghua University in September, 2016.
